Need cosmetic bonding?
Are you suffering from tooth decay? Do you need your cavities filled, but want to avoid metal fillings? Well, with tooth-colored fillings, that's no problem. Here in Silver Spring, MD, Dr. Susan Pearson can help you get the healthier and whiter smile you want.
Bonding
Bonding uses tooth-colored materials called composite resins, which consist of a mixture of plastic and glass, to provide translucency and strength, and hide cosmetically unattractive defects. The composite bonds with the rest of your tooth and fixes:
- Chips
- Discoloration
- Fractures
- Minor spacing
- Irregularities
The Procedure
Composite resins come in a variety of tooth shades for truly lifelike results. Getting a dental bonding doesn't need any laboratory work so your Silver Spring dentist can finish the procedure in one visit, probably about 30 minutes to an hour.
The procedure consists of:
- Cleaning the surface of the tooth
- Etch the surface of your teeth with an acidic gel to open up tiny pores in the surface
- Rinse off the resin in a well-matched shade of filling
- A special curing light hardens the bonding material
- After the first layer is cured, another layer is painted onto your tooth
- Your dentist builds up the tooth until the restoration has the necessary thickness
- Your tooth is then shaped
Taking Care of Your Bondings
Preventative care is key to maintaining your dental health and dental bondings. Dental bondings require the same care as all your teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day, after breakfast and before bed, and floss at least once. This will help keep your teeth healthy and avoid new cavities from flourishing in your new tooth-colored fillings, or any of your other teeth.
