The loss of even one tooth can significantly change your appearance. Fortunately, dental implants offer an excellent solution when your dental implantssmile isn't quite as full as it once was. Our Silver Spring, MD, dentist, Dr. Susan Pearson, explains how dental implants work and shares a few benefits.

Dental implants restore your entire tooth

Dental implants are a good choice when you want to replace your entire tooth, not just the part you reveal when you open your mouth. The process starts by implanting a small titanium post in your jawbone in the exact spot once occupied by tooth roots. If you plan to replace several teeth, you'll need more than one implant, although you won't necessarily need one implant for each missing tooth.

During the next three to six months, you'll wait for your implant to bond to your jawbone before proceeding to the next step in the process, the addition of a crown.

Once your implant has successfully bonded to your jawbone, a small screw will be added that will connect a dental crown to it. Your crown will be custom-made to fit your mouth using an impression made in our Silver Spring office. After the crown is connected to the implant, no one will be able to tell that you lost a tooth.

A few important reasons you may want to consider dental implants

When you receive a dental implant, you'll enjoy:

  • A new tooth that looks and feels completely natural. Because your crown is securely attached to your implant, you won't notice any difference when you use the tooth to eat. Slipping or irritation that can occur with other restoration options aren't a problem with dental implants.
  • Quick and simple care requirements. You won't need any special solutions or other products to care for your implant. In fact, keeping your dental implants healthy only requires regular brushing and flossing.
  • Improved jaw strength. Although it may have appeared that chewing was the only function of your lost tooth, it also performed another equally important job. Roots stimulate the bone in your jaw and help it maintain its strength. When a tooth is lost, the underlying bone can begin to weaken and shrink. In some cases, the bone may become so weak that it can no longer support your teeth. Implants take over for your tooth roots, preventing the problem.

Find out what factors make you an ideal candidate for this long-term tooth replacement treatment.

Losing a tooth many centuries ago may have spelled disaster for a smile, but with modern-day dentistry, tooth loss treatments have dental implantscome a long way. Our Silver Spring dentist, Dr. Susan Pearson, understands how stressful this issue can be and that’s why we offer amazing options like dental implants for replacing your missing teeth for life.

You Want a Restoration that Stays Put

Dentures rest on the gums, which can cause them to rub against gum tissue and cause irritation. Dentures also use suction to stay in place, but some patients find that dentures actually move around in their mouths, making it difficult to chew or speak. But implants actually fuse together with the jawbone so you won’t have to worry about implants moving around at all.

The Rest of Your Smile Isn’t Affected

If you get dental bridges we will need to file down natural teeth so that they can anchor the bridge in place. So instead of just one tooth being replaced three teeth will be affected to get a dental bridge. But when you choose to get dental implants in Silver Spring you won’t have to worry about altering the rest of your smile.

Enjoy Your Favorite Foods

If you have dentures and want to dine on a delicious steak you may bite down just to find that your dentures pop right out. This can be frustrating when all you want to do is enjoy meals but your dentures dictate what you can and can’t eat; however, with implants you won’t have this problem. Implants are a permanent part of your jawbone, so enjoy that beautiful steak or whatever your heart desires.

Clean Implants Like Real Teeth

When it comes to implants you won’t need to remove them to soak them overnight. Instead, implants can be cleaned just like natural teeth. There is no special toothbrush or toothpaste needed for your implants. Just keep using the same products you’ve been using for keeping your mouth clean. And don’t forget those six-month professional dental cleanings!

Dental implants have been saving countless smiles and they could be the ideal restorative dentistry you’ve been looking for in Silver Spring. If you want to find out more about getting dental implants then call Dr. Pearson today for a consultation.

There’s an old saying, “I’m only going to do this once.”

You probably feel that way about your tooth restoration options in Silver Spring, MD – you want to close those gaps and flash a bright, dental implantsconfident smile, but you don’t want to have to revisit the situation in just a few years.

Fortunately, there’s another much more permanent option: dental implants. If you want that one restoration for a lifetime of smiles, consider contacting Susan Pearson, DDS in Silver Spring. Dr. Pearson and her staff can give you all the information you need and do the work you want to restore your smile forever.

Dental implants are one of the most popular cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures done today. There are many reasons why people in Silver Spring are opting to get dental implants. For one, they are the longest lasting restorative procedure available – implants can literally last you a lifetime.

Dental implants are considered the most natural restorations as well – they are truly the closest thing your Silver Spring dentist is going to come to giving you back your natural, real teeth. Unlike a dental bridge, which requires the dentist to file down or cut down existing teeth to attach a permanent prosthetic device, implants do not require further removal of existing tooth enamel or structure: implants actually become part of your oral bone structure.

In a dental implant procedure, a dental surgeon drills a hole into your jawbone and places the implant directly into the hole in the jawbone. The jawbone then heals around the implant, anchoring it firmly into place, via a process called Osseointegration. Once the jawbone heals and anchors the implant, the dentist then installs a titanium screw to which a prosthetic tooth or “crown” is attached. The implants and crowns are designed to your specific needs, and the result is a natural looking and functioning replacement tooth.

Unlike other restoration procedures, implants actually encourage, even cultivate new bone tissue growth. Dental implant procedures do take longer to complete and usually require more than one trip to the dentist, but with a 98 percent success rate, the time and money invested is worth it.

Go from toothless to a full smile again with dental implants.

Dental implants have changed the way your Silver Springs dentist Dr. Susan Pearson can replace your missing teeth. So what are Dental Implants dental implants and how can they provide a long-term solution to your tooth loss? Find out more about dental implants in detail and how they may be able to help your smile.

A dental implant is actually designed to replace your missing tooth’s roots. Just like tooth roots, your implant will become permanently fused with your jawbone through a natural process known as osseointegration. Once the implant is placed in the jawbone they can’t be seen. You may think that implants can only be used to replace one missing tooth but besides holding dental crown implants, can also hold dental bridges and dentures to replace all or most of your missing teeth.

So, how do dental implants connect to the jawbone permanently? Implants are made from titanium, which is a strong, biocompatible material that your body doesn’t reject. Because of this, titanium is a popular metal used in many other procedures like joint replacements. Once the implant is placed into the jawbone it’s given a couple months to heal. During this time the bone and tissues surrounding the implant begin to fuse with it, locking it firmly into place. This is the success behind dental implants!

From there your Silver Springs dentist Dr. Pearson will perform a couple procedures to ensure that the dental crown stays permanently onto the implant. Dental implants are one of the most effective treatments for replacing missing teeth for the long term. Implants are truly the next best replacement for natural teeth because they are the only dental work that truly becomes part of your mouth.

If you are looking to replace one, two or all of your missing teeth, dental implants could give you the smile you’ve been wanting. And your Silver Springs dentist Dr. Pearson can help! Call our office today to schedule a consultation. Let’s find out if dental implants are right for you!
